Initially introduced in Utah following the Utah Legal Tender Act of 2019, they serve as a voluntary currency, allowing transactions at the vendor's discretion. The refreshed Utah 50 Goldback celebrates our capstone virtue Libertas, or liberty, through the historic Golden Spike Ceremony held on May 10, 1869 at Promontory Summit. On this day, the nation's first transcontinental railroad was completed, forever transforming the nation. Libertas drives the final blow to the legendary golden spike, her belt adorned with the Utah state seal. The UV layer uncovers a band with the state flag around her left arm and a California gull flying above. Behind her, a steam locomotive resembles the historic Jupiter train.
