Founded in Kingston, Ontario, in 1876, the Royal Military College of Canada (RMC) has played an important role in developing generations of Canadian military and civilian leaders.
From its founding in 1876 to its continued role in educating future leaders, RMC has built a legacy of academic excellence, military training and service to Canada. This commemorative coin captures that legacy through some of the College's most recognizable symbols, from its historic clock tower and motto to the achievements of its astronaut alumni.

Beside the tower is a banner bearing the College's proud motto, “TRUTH DUTY VALOUR.” Five stars appear above the design, representing the five former RMC cadets who became Canadian Space Agency astronauts: Marc Garneau, Chris Hadfield, Michael McKay, Jeremy Hansen and Joshua Kutryk. The stars also symbolize the accomplishments of the thousands of RMC graduates whose contributions have extended across Canada's military, public service, science and other fields.
