Product Details

Silver Tetradrachm from the reign of Azes I, king of Bactria, present day Afghanistan, from 57 BC to 35 BC. He was a political descendant of Alexander the Great, who brought Greek culture to the East.

Coin Highlights:

One of the earliest known bilingual minted coins. Coin legends show Greek letters and Kharosthi script.

Coin is in AU (Almost Uncirculated) condition, with incredible details and luster. Obverse: Azes on horseback right, holding a whip.

Reverse: Pallas standing right, holding a shield, sceptre and torque. Much of Azes' coinage was issued before the birth of Christ, but some had to be struck on the day of Christ's birth, and all were in circulation when Christ lived.
