Washington Nationals

The Washington Nationals are a Major League Baseball (MLB) team based in Washington, D.C., known for their rapid ascent to success in the late 2010s. The franchise was originally established in 1969 as the Montreal Expos, the first MLB team located in Canada. After decades in Montreal, the team relocated to the U.S. capital in 2005 and was renamed the Nationals. Following years of rebuilding, the Nationals became contenders in the 2010s, led by stars like Bryce Harper, Max Scherzer, Stephen Strasburg, and Ryan Zimmerman. Their greatest achievement came in 2019 when they won their first World Series championship, defeating the Houston Astros in a dramatic seven-game series and becoming the first team in MLB history to win all four World Series games on the road. The Nationals play at Nationals Park, a modern stadium located along the Anacostia River, which has played a major role in revitalizing the surrounding Navy Yard neighborhood. With a strong foundation and committed fan base, the Nationals have established themselves as a key part of Washington, D.C.’s sports identity.
