Philadelphia Phillies
The Philadelphia Phillies are one of Major League Baseball’s (MLB) oldest franchises, established in 1883, and are based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Known as the Phillies since 1890, they are the longest continuously operating team under one name and in one city in professional sports. The team’s history has been marked by periods of struggle but also moments of triumph. They won their first World Series in 1980, led by Hall of Famers like Mike Schmidt and Steve Carlton, and captured their second title in 2008 with a talented roster featuring Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, and Cole Hamels. The Phillies play their home games at Citizens Bank Park, a modern ballpark known for its fan-friendly design and signature Liberty Bell replica that lights up and rings after home runs. The team has a passionate fan base, which has supported them through notable playoff runs, including National League pennants in 1993, 2009, and 2022. With a legacy of perseverance and a deep connection to Philadelphia’s sports culture, the Phillies remain a cornerstone of the city’s identity.
