This 1921-D Morgan Dollar, graded MS-64 by PCGS with a CAC sticker, represents a fascinating revival of an iconic American coin. Struck by the Denver Mint, it captures the final chapter of George T. Morgan's enduring design as the nation emerged from WWI.

Imagine America in 1921—a nation transitioning from the Great War into a new era, soon to be known as the Roaring Twenties. It was a time of both economic readjustment and burgeoning cultural shifts, with new technologies and a growing desire for peace shaping the landscape. In this dynamic environment, the U.S. Mint resurrected a beloved classic: the Morgan Dollar. Production of the Morgan Dollar had ceased in 1904, and its unexpected return was a direct consequence of the 1918 Pittman Act, which mandated the replacement of millions of silver dollars melted down during the war.

This particular coin, a 1921-D Morgan Dollar, was struck at the Denver Mint, which produced these silver dollars alongside the Philadelphia and San Francisco Mints. The "D" mint mark proudly signifies its Denver origin. With a high mintage across all facilities that year, the 1921 issues are nonetheless historically significant as the last gasp of the Morgan Dollar series before it was replaced by the Peace Dollar later the same year. Chief Engraver George T. Morgan himself recreated his iconic design since the original master dies had been destroyed, leading to subtle but distinct differences from earlier issues, such as shallower details and a unique luster.

The obverse of this historic dollar showcases Lady Liberty in profile, her Phrygian cap adorned with wheat and cotton, symbolizing prosperity and agricultural bounty. Encircling her are thirteen stars, representing the original colonies. On the reverse, a powerful bald eagle with outstretched wings grasps an olive branch and arrows, a classic depiction of both peace and readiness. These elements are encircled by a wreath of oak leaves. This particular example has been certified in Mint State 64 (MS-64) by PCGS, an indication of its superb preservation, and further validated by a CAC sticker, confirming its strong eye appeal for the grade. Composed of .900 fine silver, this dollar contains 0.7734 troy ounces of pure silver, has a diameter of 38.10 mm, and a thickness of 3.1 mm. It serves as a striking reminder of a moment when the past met the future in American coinage.
