Liberty Eagle Design one of the Finest Ever Produced
Before the Liberty Eagle's run in circulation, there were few coin designs that drew inspiring glances from the public. That changed with the inception of the $5 Liberty Gold Half Eagle. The design was so unlike any that it garnered a new sense of patriotism and American ideals. The obverse of the coin features a left-facing Liberty with 13 stars encircling the coin. On the reverse, an eagle with a shield over its breast as it carries an olive branch and arrows is on display. This design helped renew and beautify American coinage for a time, before the passing of its designer, Christian Gobrecht.
